Winston Churchill was a great champion of the English speaking peoples. He thought the English speaking connection was so important that he wrote a four volume history of it. If we are looking for divisions among various types of people, English speaking is not often highlighted, but may be a useful distinction\on. Churchill saw it as the connection between Britain and the United States that led to victory in World War II. English speaking may have been the main characteristic that led the US to the rise over time from British colony to the most powerful country in the world. This benefit may be declining as other languages assert themselves, especially Chinese, but we see other nationalities coming to the US and in most cases learning English. If the US ceases to be an English speaking country, could this be another sign of decline?
