I believe that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is in danger, and not just from the random missiles and drones that fall on Kyiv each night. If Putin succeeds in taking over Ukraine years after he first attempted to, he will wnt to get rid of Zelenskyy, who is a potential rallying point for Ukrainians resisting Russian rule. If Putin had succeeded in taking Kyiv on February 2, 2022, he probably would have killed Zelenskyy if he had been able to. Now if Zelenskyy agrees to a cease fire with no security guarantees, his life will be in jeopardy again. How long will Putin honor an unenforceable cease fire? A week, a month, a year?
Trump has no affection for Zelenskyy. He remembers when Zelenskyy stood up to Trump’s demands for dirt on Hunter Biden, during his first term, which led to his first impeachment. He would gladly look the other way if Putin did whatever he wanted to Zelenskyy, who could probably escape to Western Europe to try to keep alive Ukraine’s fight for independence. Meanwhile many Ukrainians would wage a guerrilla war of rebellion against Russian rule, as they did in the Orange Revolution.
